What Happened to Me by The Exkursions
What Happened To Me
is a Christian psychedelic blues rap from 1971. An unusual combination by one of the first evangelistic rock bands called The Exkursions.

The Exkursions

This was a power trio from the early 1970's led by guitarist and vocalist Mike Johnson. Johnson was a Chicago native whose bluesy guitar riffs landed him a gig with the Mike Bloomsfield Blues Band. Later Johnson converted tot Christianity and began his own band called The Exkursions. This trio blended heavy blues-rock with fusion and psychedelic influences fueled by a fuzz guitar tone, wah wah effects in the vein of Jimi Hendrix and Cream.
The Exkursions toured the country from 1968 to 1970 and released only one album. Mike Johnson pursued a solo career, heading into a more jazz oriented direction.

What Happened to Me

What Happened to Me is a psychedelic blues rap with an evangelistic message about Jesus: the only one that can set you free.
Now let me tell you what happened to me.
When I finally got help eventually,
I opened up my heart and let Jesus in.
And he swept out all that garbage within.
Come on people.
Can’t you see there is only one person going to set you free
Now let me tell you what happened to me.
