Clean Race is a track by reggae DJ David Scott, a.k.a. Scotty. He was an extremely popular singjay: reggae singer and DJ toaster. He started his musical life when still at high school in the 1960s, founding a reggae trio called The Federals with classmates Valman Smykle and A J Franklin. The Federals soon caught the attention of producer Derrick Harriott, with whom they would record a series of singles.

Many of his songs feature a kind of style known as singjay. Singjaying is a subgenre of Jamaican reggae music and combines toasting and singing in a loose rap style. Clean Race that was released on Song Bird in 1972, is a perfect example of singjaying, one of the direct predecessors of rap music.
